Located in the South of France between Cannes and Monaco, Nice is the capital of the French Riviera and the fifth-largest city in France. If you are looking for the perfect travel destination, here are just nine of the many reasons why Nice is a great city to visit.
1. Beach
The beach is a popular spot during the summer to sunbathe, swim, or enjoy one of the many waterfront restaurants and beach bars. Beaches in Nice are covered in large, smooth pebbles called galets that have been carried down from the mountains to the coast by rivers. The uneven surface can feel uncomfortable, so if you are spending the day on the beach, wear shoes and bring or rent a lounge chair.

Built from the fourteenth century to the nineteenth century, Vieux Nice is known for its pastel orange and pink-hued buildings separated by narrow streets.
3. Old Port
The old port of Nice, officially called Port Lympia, was constructed in 1749 for commercial activities, but now serves as a marina for luxury yachts and ferry boats. Around the port you will find many restaurants, cafes, and antique shops.
4. Mediterranean Views
Gaze out at the Mediterranean blue water from the beach, or climb to the top of Castle Hill to get an aerial view of the Sea and the city.
5. Climate
With its mild Mediterranean climate, Nice is a pleasant place to visit in all seasons. Refreshing sea breezes cool things down on hot summer days, and the sunshine keeps Nice warm during the winter months.
6. Flower Market
The Marché aux Fleurs is open Tuesday through Sunday under the striped awnings of Cours Saleya. Floral fragrances from fresh French flowers fill the air as you wander through the market stalls.
7. Promenade des Anglais
This paved promenade stretches for over 4 miles (7km) along the coastline. It’s perfect for bicyclists, long walks, or watching the sunset.
8. Statues
Many elaborate statues and sculptures can be spotted around the old town.
9. Place Masséna
Place Masséna is the main square in Nice. Outdoor concerts, festivals, and other public events are often held in this space. Seven statues representing the seven continents sit on elevated poles in the square and are lit up with changing colors at night.

Love the pictures in this post. You’ve captured a lot of what Nice is about. Another nice thing about Nice is the intangible infectious vibe in the city. Perhaps it’s the sea air but that city has something very special.
